Victorian-era Goldstone Micro-Mosaic Brooch in Velvet Display Box from J.C. Mumma Jewelry, Reading, PA

Beautifully detailed Goldtone frame with Goldstone base with a centered floral design. The flowers are set as a micro- mosaic. Tiny tiles are arranged to form a picture.

In excellent condition, may have been repaired but surface is clean and shows well. Unmarked. Approximately 2" Long x 1 1/2" Across.

Goldstone is not a stone or gold. It's a manufactured "gemstone material" and known by many names: "aventurine glass," stellaria, gold star glass, monkstone or monk's gold. The final two names refer to the urban legend that goldstone was created accidentally by Italian monks in the 1600s.
