Vintage Brother Juniper 4" Novelty Plates By the Shafford Co., Circa 1958, Decorative Black and white

$16.00

Brother Juniper is the creation of Fred McCarthy. He first saw the light of day in the summer of 1942 in the main reading room of Friedsam Memorial Library at St. Bonaventure, in Olean, New York. It was here that McCarthy was prompted to learn about the historical Brother Juniper and discovered how much his generic cartoon character resembled him. The Brother Juniper comic strip was first published in 1958 and ran until 1989. It eventually ran in over 100 papers in the United States, and overseas with over 15,000,000 potential readers.

Measuring approximately 4", these novelty plates feature Brother Juniper and his baseball team with the caption "Oh well, like Leo Durocher says, nice guys finish last", and The Tailor Shop with the "I tell you I'm tired of that sack look!". In very good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks.
