A fantastic example of this unique original and rare item. In excellent vintage condition, very minor wear, no chips, cracks or repairs, this Cambridge uranium glass flower frog is from the 1920-30's.
Flower frogs have been used for many years and have a long history dating back to the early 20th century. They were created as a decorative and functional tool for arranging and holding flower stems in a vase or bowl. Flower frogs were particularly popular during the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods. Frogs made by renowned manufacturers like Cambridge Glass, are highly sought after by collectors today.
Measures approximately: 8 1/2" in height x 4" in diameter at base.
Cambridge Glass was formed in Cambridge, Ohio, USA in 1873.
The company produced coloured glassware from 1902 until its closure in 1958.
They produced a range of coloured glass in the 20s, it was made in opaque shades at the start of production and then went on to produce transaparant shades.
The most common color of uranium glass is pale yellowish-green, which in the 1930s led to the nickname "Vaseline glass" based on a perceived resemblance to the appearance (which was a yellow-green color) of Vaseline brand petroleum jelly as commercially sold at that time.
