The Graflex Century Graphic was first released in 1947, and was designed to produce images up to 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" (6x9cm) with either a 120 roll film back, a cut film holder, or a film pack (it does not come with a film back holder)
The camera has the Graflok with the focusing panel to "lock" sheet film or roll film holders into place.
This Graflex Century Graphic (2¼ × 3¼ format) with a 101mm f/4.5 Optar lens and a Graflok back takes a 2-inch x 2-inch (51mm x 51mm) lens board.
A rangefinder camera, the Graflex Century Graphic models from 1947 to 1955 were fitted with a side-mounted Kalart finder and equipped with a ground glass back, so view camera style focusing with different focal length lenses is limited only by the bellows draw.
The lens was "Made by Wollensak, Rochester USA for Graflex, Inc." Wollensak lenses, specifically the Raptar and Graphex-shuttered lenses, were produced for Century Graphic cameras primarily between the 1940s and 1960s. This Century Graphic camera with serial number 517280 was likely manufactured in 1951.
The Graflex Optar 101mm f/4.5, that is on the camera was made by Wollensak but branded as Optar for Graflex. It is essentially the same lens as the Raptar but rebranded for sale with Graflex cameras. Graphex shutters, were also made by Wollensak.
In very good to average condition, with wear from age. Shutter fires and the camera is intact, however it has not been film tested and cannot be guaranteed to work as new. No attempt has been made to clean, repair or alter. Here is an opportunity to add a unique medium format rangefinder to your collection. Priced accordingly.
