Vintage Japanese Banko Ware 3D Carved Red Ware Vase, 6", Circa 1950's. Japan Banko ware, or Banko-yaki in Japanese, is a type of Japanese pottery that originated in the mid-18th century. The history of Banko ware begins with Rozan Nunami, a wealthy merchant and tea enthusiast who built a kiln in the Obuke district of Asahi Town in Mie Prefecture. Nunami stamped his work with the phrase "Banko fueki," which means "everlasting" or "unchanging". He hoped his creations would be enjoyed for generations to come.

Banko ware is known for its dark, rusty color, which comes from a special iron-red and yellow clay blend and a unique firing process. Banko ware is often decorated with flowers, cranes, and enamel.

Banko ware is used for a variety of items, including teapots, teacups, sake cups, serving bottles, vases, plates, and bonsai pots. Banko ware is still produced today, though it's considered a high-quality craft that requires a lot of craftsmanship and is becoming increasingly rare.

It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. It is stamped "Made in Japan" on the bottom. It measures approximately 5" tall and would look awesome as a decor piece or make a great addition to a collection/display. It is truly a unique piece and the craftsmanship is remarkable.
