Vintage Crown Trifari "Carousel" Clip-On Earrings, Circa 1950's

This pair of vintage Crown Trifari "Carousel" clip-on earrings from the 1950's are simple gorgeous. Trifari, founded in the early 20th century, became known for high-quality, innovative jewelry designs. These "Carousel" earrings are a notable example of Trifari's mid-century craftsmanship. They feature a floral design with baguette-cut rhinestones and a ribbon-like element, made of trifanium, a non-tarnishing silver-tone metal with a rhodium-plated finish.

During World War II, pot metals’ availability was limited by rationing. As a result, Trifari substituted sterling silver, which tripled the jewelry prices. After World War II, Trifari sought to return to a less-expensive, no-maintenance metal. However, its customer base was now accustomed to silver. To refocus customers’ attention, Trifari began promoting a “new” metal called Trifanium. This was the same pre-war pot metal that could accept a rhodium finish. This novel metal helped place Trifari jewelry above other jewelry pieces at the time.

These Crown Trifari clip-on earrings are exquisite and a rare find. They date back to the 1950's and are marked Trifari with Crown, indicating that they were made before 1955. The earrings measure approximately 1-1/4" Long x 3/4" Wide and are in excellent condition. They are fabulous to wear and an awesome addition to your jewelry collection.
