Vintage Zwiebelmuster Blue Onion Round Serving Bowl, 8-1/4", Circa 1960's, Made in Bohemia, Czech Republic

This vintage Zwiebelmuster Blue Onion round serving bowl is fabulous. Zwiebelmuster" is a pattern, not a company. It's the German name for the popular blue onion pattern used in porcelain tableware -- "Zwiebelmuster" translates to "onion pattern" in German.

The Blue Onion pattern is a traditional design that has been popular for centuries. Made in Bohemia, Czech-Republic, this bowl is stamped on the back, "Original Bone China, Zwiebelmuster, 1864-1994". It's a popular porcelain pattern, originally from Meissen, where the design is applied to the porcelain using a transfer printing method -- which involves transferring a printed image from a copper plate onto paper and then onto the pottery. This pattern features blue floral and fruit motifs on white porcelain with a scalloped rim.

It is a desirable serving bowl for any collector of the Blue Onion pattern, transferware, or blue and white decor pieces. For your mid-century retro kitchen, this pattern featuring cobalt blue on a white background is awesome. In excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or stains, this serving bowl measures approximately 8-1/4" in diameter x 3-1/2" Tall.
