Vintage Tiered Caviar Server Dish, Made in Japan, Pink Floral Design with Gold Trim

Vintage Porcelain Tiered Caviar/Appetizer Server Plate /Tray marked on the bottom: "Japan". It features a white bottom plate and a round serving dish with a simple, yet elegant, pink and green floral pattern, trimmed in gold. Art Nouveau-style floral design... simply lovely.

The practice of using tiered serving stands became prominent during the Victorian era and 19th-century afternoon tea in England. These tiered stands served a dual purpose: maximizing table space and creating a visually impressive display. As caviar became a high-end luxury item, dedicated caviar servers appeared.

These servers often used tiered designs. The upper tier held the caviar on ice, and the lower tier held accompaniments like blinis, toast points, etc.

This vintage round tiered dish is charming -- it measures approximately (lower plate) 8-1/2" in diameter x (upper tier) 4-3/4" in Diameter x 3/4" Deep. The two tiers measure approximately 3" Tall . This serving dish is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or stains.

Not limited to Caviar, this server can be used for other appetizers, chips and dip, cheeses, etc. Could be an attractive accent on the top of a bureau/dresser to hold small jewelry items / trinkets. Makes a wonderful gift or a special treat for yourself.
