Vintage Royal Winton Grimwades, "Summertime" Chintz Jug/ Pitcher, Made in England, Circa 1932-1960

Pretty vintage milk or cream jug made by Royal Winton Grimwades. It features a transfer printed from chintz floral design called "Summertime" and gold gilding to the top of the rim and sides of the handle. The Summertime pattern, featuring a cream background and gold trim, was first produced by Royal Winton (Grimwades) from 1932 to 1960.

The company was founded by Leonard Grimwade, an experienced pottery modeller, in 1885; he was joined by his brother Sidney Grimwade, also a potter. In 1928 the company began to produce chintzware, floral patterns inspired by textiles of the period. Soon afterwards the trade name "Royal Winton" was established. Over the years, more than sixty chintz patterns were introduced. Because of high production costs, chintzware was discontinued in the early 1960s.

This fabulous jug/pitcher is in very good vintage condition, with no chips, repairs, or cracks. A simply beautiful piece, it is stamped on the bottom " Summertime, Copyright Wright Tynsdale & Van Roden Inc., England, Royal Winton Grimwades, Made in England", and measures approximately 3-1/2" H x 5-1/4" W (from spout to handle). The jug has a capacity of 16 fluid Ounces.

This substantial little jug/ pitcher in a beautiful floral design would make a great addition to your vintage kitchen and your table to serve cream/milk, syrup, sauce, or salad dressing. Also makes a terrific gift, an awesome decor piece, and a beautifyul addition to any collection or display.
